Fly Fishing Guide, Brookings Anglers
Simons Welter
Simons Welter is a Clemson University graduate, devoted wife, mother of two, and proud grandmother of two who was born in Statesville, North Carolina, and now calls Brevard, North Carolina home. With more than 20 years of fly fishing experience and over 14 years guiding for Brookings Anglers in Cashiers, North Carolina, Simons has built a reputation as one of the most respected and passionate fly fishing guides in the Southeast.
An avid angler whose travels have taken her across the United States and to multiple countries in pursuit of fish and adventure, Simons is especially known for her love of the remote high mountain streams of Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. Whether targeting native brook trout on a dry fly or introducing a first-time angler to the sport, she approaches every day on the water with enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine appreciation for the outdoors.
Simons is deeply committed to conservation, education, and mentoring others through fly fishing. She has volunteered and worked extensively with organizations including Casting Carolinas, Casting for Recovery, the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, and Becoming an Outdoors Woman. She is also a longtime member and past president of the Mountain Bridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited and has volunteered with numerous DNR conservation projects throughout the region.
Simons is known for her upbeat personality, tireless energy, and ability to connect with anglers of every experience level — from first-time fly fishers to experienced anglers looking to refine their techniques. She believes the best days on the water come from appreciating the entire experience — the river, the wildlife, the learning process, and the people you share it with.
Her expertise and dedication have earned her features in publications including Eastern Fly Fishing and Blue Ridge Outdoors, and she was also featured in the book Southern Women: More Than 100 Stories of Innovators, Artists and Icons by Garden & Gun.
