Fly Casting Instructor, Innovator & Rod Designer

Michael Mauri

Michael Mauri is an internationally recognized fly casting instructor and innovator, best known for developing the Effective Fly Casting Technique (EFCT) — a casting system built around natural body movement and efficient mechanics. Based in Stuart, Florida, he has taught single-hand, double-hand Spey, and overhead casting across Europe, Canada, and the United States since 1998, and works today as a guide, casting educator, and fly rod designer through Mauri Flyfishing.

Michael was born and raised in Germany, where he caught his first fish at age six in a small Bavarian stream. By twelve, he was fully immersed in fly fishing — a passion that eventually led him to formal training as a technical engineer in aquaculture. Since 1998, he has traveled internationally, appearing at major fly-fishing shows and conducting single-hand and double-hand casting workshops across Europe, Canada, and the United States, guiding anglers and teaching casting techniques to fly fishers of every skill level.

An innovator by nature, Michael developed his own casting system, the Effective Fly Casting Technique (EFCT). Built around natural body movement and efficient mechanics, EFCT simplifies the learning curve for anglers at every level — from a first cast to advanced refinement. His expertise spans single-hand, double-hand Spey, and overhead casting, and he's known industry-wide for breaking complex casting mechanics down into clear, structured instruction.

Today, Michael runs Mauri Flyfishing out of Stuart, Florida, offering year-round guided saltwater trips for snook, tarpon, redfish, and more, alongside private casting lessons in single- and double-handed disciplines. He also hosts destination casting schools and fishing experiences beyond Florida, and continues to share his knowledge through presentations and special events on the fly-fishing show circuit. Michael consults as a design engineer for a leading fly rod manufacturer and also designs and handcrafts his own line of fly rods.

Michael lives near Stuart, Florida, with his wife, Emily, and their daughter, Emma. Emily is an advocate for the waters they fish, working locally on environmental and water-quality issues affecting their home water. Together, the Mauris have built their business around a simple philosophy: spend as much time as possible on the water, and help every angler who steps aboard become a better caster and a more confident fly fisher — through education, innovation, and a lifetime of experience.
