Necessary Items for the Fly Fishing Guide School
Necessary items for the Fly Fishing Guide School should include your personal fishing items and notebook. Imagine going on an exploratory adventure seeking new waters. Items like reels, rods (3 & 7), waders, boots, net, and perhaps a traveling fly tying kit. Pack like you are going on a fishing holiday with your flies, tippet, vest, wading boots, rods, reels, and whatever else you need. If you have a vice for tying feel free to bring that as well. Incidentally, we can accommodate the gear you might need. Message me in advance if this is the case.
We will fit tying into the week for getting across basic concepts as a foundation. Mountain weather can be all over the spectrum annually. Be prepared with rain gear, layering warm gear, glasses, and whatever other personal items you require. Be sure to have a notebook as each morning is like a class setting for taking down notes to remind you what is covered. This is the real value of attending. Many past students fill an entire notebook before the schools conclude.
Lodging Before or After School Dates
Also, many have requested lodging questions pertaining to the night before or after. These times really depend on travel times from your destination. We do not have lodging options on the evening before or after school. Many get local lodging or campgrounds in the area. Deep Creek campground is great in the GSMNP. There are many nice hotels such as Sleep Inn, Microtel, or the Stonebrook Lodge which was just completed. I look forward to meeting you in Bryson City, NC. It is always fun discussing fly fishing and the many facets of this great sport. Purchase your fishing license online for NC here for the week.
